We’re a full service, tech-enabled firm, working with entrepreneurs and businesses to help them achieve their goals, and make an impact in the world. Our team use their incredible expertise alongside intuitive technology to help businesses and entrepreneurs plan better and grow faster. Our mission is to become the UK’s leading tech-enabled accounting firm for SMEs. We have ambitious goals and our high-calibre team work hard to achieve them. We are one team with one agenda, working collaboratively in a respectful environment to deliver a great service to our clients. So if you join us, you’ll not only be working on exciting client challenges, you’ll also be helping us shape the future of accounting.
The Role: Gravita is building out a dedicated advisory service line and is seeking a senior technical specialist to act as its principal lead for share and business valuations. The role carries a strong emphasis on contentious and semi-contentious work, including shareholder disputes, Single Joint Expert (SJE) appointments, and lawyer-instructed valuations. Working closely with the Partners, the post holder will take ownership of complex engagements, manage existing team resources, and play an active role in business development, particularly within the legal community. This is a genuine opportunity to help shape and grow a service line, not inherit a finished product, with a clear pathway to Director or Partner for the right individual.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead delivery of corporate and share valuations across a range of scenarios, from lower-value, high-volume matters through to complex, court-adjacent assignments.
- Act as the senior technical authority on contentious valuations, including shareholder disputes, Single Joint Expert (SJE) appointments, and instructions received from solicitors and barristers.
- Deliver corporate, asset, business and IP valuations, applying appropriate methodology and exercising sound technical judgement across varying levels of complexity.
- Manage and review the work of junior and peer-level colleagues, including an existing Advisory Manager and fractional audit resource, maintaining quality and consistency across all engagements.
- Draft clear, well-reasoned valuation reports suitable for a range of audiences, including legal professionals and the courts where required.
- Assist with substantiating auditors’ work (whether Gravita or external) on valuations of assets on the balance sheet of audited entities, in accordance with FRS 102 and IFRS.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with professional intermediaries, particularly lawyers, to generate and sustain a pipeline of referral work.
- Contribute to firm-led business development activity, including attending introducer meetings, supporting Partners on pitches, and representing the valuations offering at external events.
- Take ownership of engagements from inception through to completion, operating with commercial awareness and autonomy throughout.
People / Team Management:
- Line Manage employees where relevant, managing performance reviews and quarterly check-ins.
- Promote high performance, collaboration and continuous learning.
- Be approachable, inclusive and actively listen to team members' suggestions.
- Be an Ambassador for Gravita values.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:
- ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a dedicated valuations or transactions team, with meaningful exposure to contentious valuation work.
- Proven ability to operate with ownership and autonomy on engagements, rather than as one contributor within a large, heavily resourced team.
- Experience of reporting directly to a Director or Partner, with demonstrable readiness to step into a senior leadership position.
- Track record of, or strong appetite for, building and maintaining relationships with professional introducers, particularly within the legal community.
- London-based, or able to commit to a high and consistent level of in-person presence in London to support Partner activity, business development and client meetings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, to clearly articulate complex valuation analysis to clients, legal professionals, and other audiences.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- A background in audit or forensic audit is desirable, as some engagements will include investigatory project work alongside transactional activity.
