Gravis Robotics is a startup turning heavy construction machines into intelligent and autonomous robots. Our unique combination of learning-based automation and augmented remote control enables a single operator to safely manage a fleet of earthmoving machines in a gamified environment. With over a decade of academic experience at the cutting edge of large-scale robotics, our team is rapidly translating this expertise into real-world deployments with industry leaders in a trillion-dollar market.

About the Job

This role involves intense business travel, mostly in the Oxford–London corridor. When not traveling, the work can be performed from the Oxford area. At Gravis, we operate at the intersection of hardware, software, and real-world deployment. Our Rooftop Autonomous Control Kit (RACK) integrates sensing, compute, communication, and networking into a manufacturer-agnostic solution deployable across a wide range of construction machines. As a Field Robotics Engineer, you will play a central role in delivering customer projects and ensuring our systems meet the highest standards of reliability and performance. This hybrid position combines hands-on technical execution with ownership of customer deployment projects from planning through delivery. You will work closely with R&D and Operations to coordinate end-to-end deployments, continuously improving how we plan, test, and deliver our solutions. You will lead on-site setup and commissioning, engage directly with customers throughout project execution, and help translate complex robotic system behaviour into reliable real-world performance. Your ability to understand and troubleshoot integrated robotic systems will be essential to maintaining and advancing the robustness of our field operations.

What you will do:

  • Lead the technical execution of customer deployment projects from start to finish.
  • Own end-to-end technical planning, coordination, and follow-up in close collaboration with Operations.
  • Serve as a trusted technical point of contact for customers throughout the deployment lifecycle.
  • Provide hands-on technical support and guidance to customers and end users.
  • Perform regular system testing to ensure reliability, robustness, and performance.
  • Generate performance reports and work with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues quickly.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of deployment processes, tooling, and best practices.

What we’re looking for:

  • University degree (including degrees from universities of applied sciences) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong experience deploying, integrating, and debugging robotic software systems.
  • Experience with the ROS ecosystem.
  • Solid Linux proficiency.
  • Fluency with Git or other version control systems.
  • Good programming skills in C++ and Python.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites (including internationally, depending on project needs).
  • Valid Category B driving license.

Don't meet every requirement? If you're enthusiastic about this role but your experience doesn't match every qualification, we still encourage you to apply. You might be the perfect candidate for this or other positions.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and versatile team, and to be part of a young startup that will revolutionise heavy construction. As a forward-facing startup, we understand that work-life balance and flexibility are important considerations for many professionals: If you are a highly qualified candidate with the requisite skills and experience, we encourage you to apply and discuss your preferred working arrangement during the interview process.
