The role involves leading our high-performing Revenues and Benefits service. Reporting to the Head of Service, you will provide strong leadership and management across the Revenues and Benefits teams, ensuring the delivery of key statutory services including Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction. This is a pivotal management role, where you will drive service improvement, champion innovation and ensure services are delivered efficiently, effectively and in line with legislative requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the team to high performance standards and ensure excellent service delivery
- Oversee the administration of Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction schemes
- Drive continuous improvement through innovation, performance management and service redesign
- Collaborate across the organisation and with external partners including DWP and other agencies
About you:
You will be an inspirational and resilient leader with a collaborative approach. We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will have:
- Significant experience working in a Revenues & Benefits environment at management level for over 5 years
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop and manage staff performance effectively
- In-depth knowledge of Council Tax, Business Rates and/or Housing Benefit/Council Tax Reduction legislation
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders, Members and customers
- Experience managing performance, analysing data and driving service improvement
- A strong understanding of local government and public sector environments
- A strong level of basic education (including English and Maths) or an NVQ level 3 in a related field and/or 2 years qualitative experience
