Our client is looking to appoint an experienced engineer specialising in automatic gates and barrier systems. Based ideally within the Swindon, Oxford or Reading area, you'll cover a flexible patch that allows you to support sites south of London as well as move across into Bristol when required. Due to the mix of sites in this region, some knowledge of automatic or industrial doors would be highly advantageous.

This is a field-based role suited to a technically strong engineer who can confidently handle installations, servicing and reactive maintenance, while delivering a professional and customer-focused service. You'll be fully supported with AI-powered scheduling, advanced stock management and a well-equipped van to keep your days efficient and productive.

Job Description

  • Install, service and maintain a range of automatic gate and barrier systems.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs and small works to a high technical standard.
  • Attend commercial and high-traffic sites, ensuring systems are safe, compliant and fully operational.
  • Liaise with customers on-site, explaining works completed and any required follow-up actions.
  • Complete job reports, risk assessments and method statements accurately.
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools and stock levels in line with company standards.
  • Participate in the 1-in-12 out-of-hours call-out rota.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Proven experience working with automatic gates and barrier systems.
  • Strong fault-finding and repair capabilities.
  • Experience delivering installation, servicing and maintenance works in the field.
  • Good understanding of health & safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge or hands-on experience with automatic or industrial doors.
  • Experience working on commercial or multi-site environments.
  • Relevant industry qualifications (e.g. DHF, ADSA or equivalent).
  • Confident customer-facing skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly.

Salary, Package & Benefits

  • £22 - £24/hr (£45-50K basic) based on a 40-hour week, paid door-to-door.
  • Overtime rates: 1.5x evenings, 2x overnights and weekends.
  • £250 call-out payment on a 1-in-12 rota.
