Process Development Engineer
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum
Location: Blackburn
Type of work & hours: Full-time, permanent, office-based, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Are you an experienced Process Development Engineer looking to work at the heart of product realisation within a regulated manufacturing environment? This is an excellent opportunity to join our client\’s engineering and product development team, playing a key role in the design, validation and continuous improvement of products and processes from concept through to full production.
Working closely with engineering, production and customers, you\’ll support the introduction of new products, ensure smooth transfer into manufacture and maintain robust technical documentation in line with regulatory and quality requirements. This role would suit an engineer who enjoys hands‑on technical work, cross‑functional collaboration and working within a structured, standards-driven environment.
The Role
As Process Development Engineer, you will support all engineering activities relating to equipment and processes used directly and indirectly in product realisation. You\’ll contribute to new and existing product development, validation activities and ongoing process improvements, while ensuring compliance with internal procedures and external regulatory standards.
Job Description
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the design and development of new and existing products and manufacturing processes
- Managing the transfer of products from development through pilot production to full-scale manufacture
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation including SOPs, work instructions, FMEAs, risk assessments and quality plans
- Completing validation activities in line with company and customer requirements
- Supporting other departments with concept designs, drawings, technical documentation and change requests
- Working directly with customers to discuss new projects and resolve design or process issues
- Identifying new technologies to support future product development and business needs
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing processes
Process Development Engineer – Person Specification
Essential:
- BSc (Hons) or equivalent in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
- Minimum of 3 years\’ experience in an engineering role within a regulated manufacturing environment
- Experience producing 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor or similar)
- Working knowledge of validation processes
- Experience of working to strict regulatory standards – any exposure to ISO 13485 and ISO 14971 would be an advantage
- Strong organisational skills with good written and verbal communication
- Competent user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Desirable:
- Experience of Design for Manufacture
- Knowledge of plastics and metals used in manufacturing and tooling
- Exposure to statistical methods
- Awareness of Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement tools
