Are you a mechanically minded Design Engineer looking to work on bespoke industrial systems within a well-established and growing engineering business? Our client is a specialist engineering organisation delivering tailored Mechanical Engineering solutions. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Design Engineer to join their established team, working on a range of technically interesting projects from concept through to manufacture and installation. This is a hands-on design role where you will be responsible for producing accurate drawings, layouts and supporting documentation for bespoke engineered systems. You’ll work closely with internal teams and occasionally visit customer sites to ensure designs are fit for purpose. The role would suit someone with a strong mechanical engineering background, confident producing 2D drawings, and keen to develop within a specialist engineering environment.
Job Description
- Produce detailed 2D design drawings and plant layouts for manufacturing and installation
- Develop general arrangement drawings, parts lists (BOMs) and fabrication details
- Carry out site surveys to inform system design and layout
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotations and support procurement activities
- Support inspection of fabricated components to ensure quality standards are met
- Work collaboratively with engineering, sales and project teams
- Maintain accurate drawing office records and adhere to design standards
- Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle
Person Specification
- HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong mechanical engineering background with design experience
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D (3D experience such as Inventor advantageous)
- Experience producing manufacturing and fabrication drawings
- Comfortable working with bespoke or engineered-to-order systems
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
