Fire & Security Engineer Salary: £45,760 – £49,920 basic + overtime and call-out payments Location: Basingstoke / Reading / Swindon and surrounding areas Type: Permanent, Full-time, Field-based Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday + overtime and 1-in-12 call-out rota Are you an experienced Fire & Security Engineer looking for a well-paid field role with a sensible regional patch and plenty of variety? Our client is looking for a multi-skilled Fire & Security Engineer to join their field service team, ideally based around Basingstoke, Reading or Swindon. The role will cover customer sites across the surrounding region, with workloads generally planned outwards from the engineer’s home location rather than expecting unnecessary long-distance travel. You’ll be responsible for a mix of planned maintenance, reactive service, fault-finding, repairs, remedial works and smaller installations across Fire & Security systems. This would suit an engineer who is comfortable working independently, enjoys solving technical problems and can represent the business professionally when dealing directly with customers. Job Description Carry out planned and reactive servicing across Fire & Security systems. Diagnose faults and complete repairs to fire alarms, CCTV, intruder, access control and door entry equipment. Undertake small works, system upgrades and installation activity where required. Identify remedial requirements and ensure faults are resolved efficiently and to a high standard. Liaise with customers on site, explaining faults, repairs and recommended works clearly. Complete service reports, job documentation and relevant risk assessments accurately. Work in accordance with appropriate industry standards and Health & Safety requirements. Participate in the out-of-hours call-out rota, approximately 1 week in every 12. Person Specification Previous experience working as a Fire & Security Engineer in a field-based role. Strong service, maintenance and fault-finding capability. Experience across a good mix of fire alarms, CCTV, intruder, access control and/or door entry systems. Comfortable working across different manufacturers and system types. Good understanding of both IP and conventional security technology would be beneficial. Gates and barriers experience would be useful but is not essential. Confident managing your own diary and workload across a regional customer base. Strong customer service and communication skills. Full UK driving licence. The basic salary is equivalent to approximately £45,760 – £49,920 per annum, based on a 40-hour week, with additional earning potential through enhanced overtime. Evening overtime is paid at 1.5x, with 2x rates for late and weekend working. Engineers also participate in an approximately 1-in-12 call-out rota, with a £250 payment for the on-call week plus additional hours worked. The package also includes a company van and fuel, tools and equipment, laptop and mobile phone, alongside healthcare, pension and 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays. You’ll be joining an established engineering operation offering a broad mix of work, ongoing technical development and genuine scope to build your experience across different Fire & Security disciplines. If you’re based around Basingstoke, Reading, Swindon or the surrounding area and would like a role offering a strong package without an unnecessarily wide day-to-day patch, we’d be keen to hear from you.
