Our client is a specialist fire protection business seeking a capable Service and Small Works Engineer to join their service team. This is a field-based role covering customer sites across London and the South East, carrying out servicing, maintenance, testing, fault finding and small works on fire protection systems. You will be responsible for delivering safe, compliant and high-quality work, representing the business professionally on site and ensuring customers receive a reliable and technically competent service.
This role would suit an engineer with proven experience in fire systems service engineering, a strong understanding of relevant standards and regulations, and the ability to work independently across a mobile patch. You will need to be organised, technically confident and comfortable completing service records, reports and site documentation accurately. Experience with commissioning, small works, client handovers and supervising subcontract labour would be advantageous.
As Fire Service Engineer, your duties will include:
- Carrying out planned servicing, maintenance, testing and fault finding on fire protection systems.
- Completing service visits in line with agreed schedules, customer requirements and relevant industry standards.
- Undertaking small works projects safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.
- Supporting commissioning, client handover and completion documentation where required.
- Producing accurate service reports, worksheets, photographs, records and supporting documentation.
- Identifying and resolving technical issues on site, escalating concerns where appropriate.
- Liaising professionally with clients, site contacts, subcontractors and internal technical teams.
- Supporting cost control, materials planning and efficient delivery of service and small works jobs.
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with health and safety requirements, RAMS and company procedures.
Person Specification
- Proven experience as a Fire Service Engineer, Fire Systems Engineer or similar field-based fire protection role.
- Strong knowledge of fire safety systems, servicing requirements, regulations and relevant standards such as BS5839 and BS5306.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and service documentation.
- Good fault-finding, problem-solving and site-based decision-making skills.
- Strong communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with customers and site teams.
- Good organisation, time management and attention to detail.
- Competence using basic IT systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel, for reporting and record keeping.
- Full UK driving licence.
- CSCS, PASMA, IPAF or similar site qualifications would be beneficial.
- Experience preparing or working to RAMS would be desirable.
- Experience supervising subcontractors or junior engineers would be an advantage.
