Grass Roots Academic Support is partnering with a high school in West Norfolk to recruit a Teacher of English for a temporary maternity cover position. ECTs are warmly encouraged to apply.

Phase: Secondary

Contract Type: Temporary (Maternity Cover)

Working Pattern: Full Time, All Year Round

Salary: MPS/UPS as appropriate

Start Date: 1 September 2026

Closing Date: 18th–20th May 2026

Our client is an 11–16 secondary school located in a coastal town in West Norfolk. Situated in an area renowned for its sunshine and striking striped cliffs, the school is a warm and welcoming community where dedicated staff work together to help every student achieve their full academic and personal potential.

The school is seeking an ambitious, passionate and imaginative Teacher of English to join its friendly, supportive and committed English department. This post is open to Early Career Teachers (ECTs).

The Role

The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver engaging and inspiring English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Contribute to the planning and development of schemes of learning within the English department
  • Create a positive and stimulating learning environment that encourages students to achieve their best
  • Monitor student progress and provide appropriate support to ensure both academic and personal development
  • Uphold the Teachers’ Standards and contribute positively to the wider school community
Teaching and Learning Responsibilities

Teachers will:

  • Use a range of teaching strategies and delivery methods to support different learning needs and abilities
  • Prepare and maintain high-quality teaching and learning resources
  • Assess, record and report on student progress using the school’s assessment systems and policies
  • Set and mark work in line with the school’s marking and homework policies, providing constructive feedback to support progression
  • Attend Parent/Carer Information Evenings and contribute to the wider life of the school
Personal and Professional Conduct

Teachers are expected to maintain consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct, upholding public trust in the profession and demonstrating high standards of ethics and behaviour both within and outside school.
