We are a gardening company in South London, Mitcham looking to expand our local teams and you could be the one that we are looking for.
What does a usual workday look like?
- We meet at our workshop at 7:30am, which is located in Mitcham. You are welcome to come earlier and enjoy a cup of tea.
- A manager assigns a list of jobs and locations that you and your team will have to complete today.
- Based on these jobs we load up the van with correctly functioning machinery and go move off to start working.
- You will be working with at least 1 or 2 colleagues and the furthest we go is 7 miles from our workshop location.
- The work could be looking after corporate blocks of flats or private gardens.
- At 12, we usually have a lunch break for half an hour and resume the work until 4:30pm.
- At this point, we come back to the workshop, clean up all the tools and vehicles and go home to rest, so that we could come back the next morning.
How to become a member of our team?
- There are 3 steps: interview, trial shift, probation period.
- We firstly ask you to come in person and see us for a quick 10 - 15 min chat, just to make sure you’re a real person and experience your attitude and personality.
- If you pass this first stage, we then work with you to get you in for a trial shift. This helps us evaluate your suitability for the job and your skill level.
- It will also allow you to experience what working for Grass Barbers looks like. You get to see our tools, teams and company’s culture.
- In case of the successful trial shift, we will offer you a 1 month probation period, during which we will train you to become a fully fledged member of our teams.
- After probation we offer you an extended contract based on your needs and our capabilities.
How much will I get paid?
- The trial shift is paid at £50.
- Probation period is paid at £12.21 per hour plus bonuses if you are a designated driver for that day.
- You get paid for 9 hours a day.
- The payment scheme is self-employed, which means we do not deduct any taxes and all the money we pay is all the money you get.
- After the probation period ends, we sit down and discuss how much money you need and what we can offer based on your progress during the probation period.
What is important?
- Reliability is very important. We pride ourselves to be the company of our word, meaning we always do what we promise to our customers.
- This means we need reliable people in our teams.
- We cannot stress enough how important it is for us to make sure all our colleagues are able to maintain a solid 5 day per week schedule.
What is preferable?
- Knowledge of gardening tools and experience might give you some leeway, however, we will prefer someone who is willing to work hard over someone who boasts about their experience.
- Having a clean driving licence will allow you to earn more money via daily driver bonus.
