We are looking for a Senior Technical Architect to join the Data Enablement team, providing architecture support to a variety of high-impact projects. You will be the expert voice, leading the technical design of systems and services to ensure alignment with the broader government digital strategy. You will influence major initiatives that will deliver exceptional products and services that work for everyone. Examples of the sorts of projects you will work on include child benefit APIs, housing benefit data products, data quality tools and more.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
- Expertise in Data Warehousing (e.g., Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, Azure Synapse, SAS Viya) and building enterprise data solutions.
- Strong knowledge of Analytics & Reporting, Data Lakes, BI tools, and best practices.
- Experience in Data Architecture Design, including data modelling, MDM, metadata management, and governance.
- Architecture design across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Translating business requirements into technical solutions with clear traceability.
- Presenting architecture designs to governance forums and securing approvals.
- Using architecture modelling techniques and tools to represent designs.
You and your role
As our Senior Technical Architect, you will work across multiple projects within Data Enablement, collaborating with a range of stakeholders like product owners, data scientists, engineers and other architects to deliver solutions that unlock the power of data. From enterprise data warehousing and analytics platforms to integration technologies and cloud-based services, you will influence technology choices and set the direction for complex, high-profile initiatives. Your expertise will ensure that every solution aligns with DWP's broader strategy and meets the highest standards of quality and resilience.
Beyond designing solutions, you will play a key role in governance and assurance – presenting complex information so that DWP makes the right decisions, resolves challenges, and secures approvals to enable delivery. You will mentor colleagues, share best practices, and champion architectural principles that drive innovation and consistency across the organisation. This is a role for someone who wants to make a difference, lead change, and leave a legacy in the way public services are delivered and experienced by our customers.
Details – Wages, Perks, and Work Arrangements
Location: You will join us in one of our digital hubs in Blackpool, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.
Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model – you will spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.
Pay: Up to £83,917 – £57,946 salary plus a Government Digital and Data Allowance of up to £25,971, subject to our assessment of your capability at interview.
Pension: You will get a civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, £16,786 per year.
Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time. You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You will also get all the usual public holidays.
