We are looking for a Content Designer who is passionate about using evidence to design content that helps people find out what they need to know as quickly and simply as possible. You should understand user needs and design content around those needs, and can develop and implement content strategy which improves the user experience.

DWP is the UK's biggest government department. Over 22 million people access our services every day, and around 100,000 people work to provide the support, benefits, and advice they need. We're currently taking on a generational digital transformation that is changing how we deliver for our users.

You will be driving DWP Digital's content on the GOV.UK website to ensure the content published meets users' needs and the department's goals, consistently managing and influencing our senior stakeholders while working across product, service, and departmental lines. We want someone who will experiment with new ways of working with the Government Digital Service to improve the effectiveness and timeliness of DWP's GOV.UK content.

Your essential skills and experience include:

  • Extensive experience designing accessible and plain English content, and contributing to content patterns, processes or guidelines.
  • Substantial experience of using quantitative and qualitative data to make content decisions.
  • Experience using different types of prototypes to show, explain and test your content.
  • Substantial experience of peer review and of contributing to a community of practice.
  • Collaborated with other disciplines and advocated for the role of content design.
  • Managed relationships with stakeholders and influenced them to make more user-centred and evidence-based decisions.
  • Contributed to content strategies or initiatives to help your organisation achieve the right outcomes.

You will join us based at one of our brilliant digital hubs in either Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield. In return for your skills, we offer pay up to £66,058 per annum. You'll also get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of 28.9%. That’s worth up to £19,090 a year.

Our benefits package includes:

  • A generous leave package starting at 26 days, rising over time to 31 days.
  • Family friendly flexible working arrangements, such as hybrid working, job sharing, term-time working, flexitime and compressed hours.
  • Time off volunteering and charitable giving.
  • Learning and development tailored to your role, including industry recognised qualifications, coaching and mentoring.
  • Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more.
  • Interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket.
  • Sports and social activities.
  • An inclusive and diverse environment with opportunities to join staff networks including Women’s Network, National Race Network, National Disability Network (THRIVE) and many more.
