University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is appointing 5 Trust Doctors (StR Lower) in Medicine. These 1-year posts will rotate through 3 four-month placements within the Medical Specialties (e.g. Acute Med Geriatrics, Thoracic medicine, Neurology, Stroke, Hepatology, Cardiology, Oncology, Haematology). Although vacancies are not recognised for training purposes, successful candidates will have the same opportunities as other trainees and will be supported to apply for Internal Medicine Training (IMT) Stage 1 next year. They are expected to work towards Part 1 Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and the Trust will support this qualification.
Main duties of the job:
- The post holders are expected to deliver unscheduled care to a high quality within the Acute Medical Unit and medical wards.
- Ward-based care is provided by a General Internal Medicine team that runs the inpatient medical wards.
- The post holders will have at least Foundation level 2 competencies and NHS experience and will be expected to deliver care to the standard of an IMT Stage 1 equivalent.
- The roles are well supported, with on-site consultant cover from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week.
- The post holders are expected to participate in departmental teaching and Quality Improvement Projects / clinical audit.
- There is a weekly Medical Grand Round in the Post Graduate Centre facilitating interdepartmental and inter-generational learning.
Person Specification:
- Essential:
- MB BS or equivalent
- Completed pre-registration Foundation Year 1 and Foundation Year 2 level competencies
- Previous NHS post experience of six months
- Familiarity with the NHS
- Experience of basic life support and resuscitation skills
- Full or limited registration with the GMC
- Ability to operate Take and Cover rota
- ALS/ACLS or equivalent
- Studying towards MRCP Part 1
- Wide medical experience
- Evidence of understanding and application of medical knowledge
- Interested in and understands principles of medical audit
- Accepts responsibility and participation in the management of emergencies
- Management skills
- Commitment to career in Hospital Medicine
Clinical Skills and experience:
- Completed pre-registration Foundation year 1 and Foundation year 2 level competencies
