We are looking to welcome a locum consultant anaesthetist to primarily work within adult general theatres and be on the daytime adult general on call rota. The role requires skills in major general surgery and regional anaesthesia. Additional qualifications or an interest in safety, quality and governance would also be beneficial. This is a fixed‑term post of 12 months.
Main Duties
The post holder will provide high‑quality anaesthesia services across a broad range of specialties, including general surgery, major trauma, orthopaedics, plastics and other specialities. The job plan will be at least 50% flexi sessions, allowing the post holder to retain diverse skills. The role also involves evening and weekend daytime on‑call work and contributing to the plastics and trauma weekend rota.

Job Description
The successful applicant will meet with the Service Line Director to agree a personalised job plan that reflects skills, interests and preferred working patterns, with a focus on regional anaesthesia and major general surgery. Flexibility is key to supporting wellbeing and long‑term career satisfaction. Job plans typically include 1.5 PAs of generic Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) time, tailored to roles in education, management, research or quality improvement. You will also deliver teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students, mentor junior doctors, and support clinical learning.
