We are seeking a HCPC registered Radiographer to join our imaging team at UHPT as a B7 Specialist Area Lead Radiographer in X-Ray Theatre and Mobile Imaging. Applicants with postgraduate NHS experience in an acute setting as a senior B6/7 radiographer and strong clinical knowledge of radiography across all x-ray imaging modalities are encouraged to apply.
Overview
The X-Ray Theatre and Mobile Imaging service at UHPT encompasses a broad remit. UHPT is a regional centre and trauma centre providing care across trauma pathways. This role includes responsibility for the X-Ray service line and an Equipment Management programme within the X-Ray Imaging Service remit. You will provide clinical excellence, lead service development, and manage day-to-day operation of the clinical area, including Radiographer-in-charge duties in the absence of the Imaging Service Lead Radiographer.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care to patients, ensuring high standards and supporting colleagues to do likewise.
- Remain an active member of the clinical radiography team and perform the full range of radiographic duties to standard.
- Maintain imaging competencies essential for the role.
- Be competent with the Radiology Information System, Hospital Information Systems, PACS, and routine diagnostic techniques and equipment; deliver diagnostic-quality images timely.
- Interpret clinical information, follow departmental protocols, and use professional judgement to determine the most appropriate examination; query examinations when indications require it and advise junior staff as needed.
- Undertake imaging examinations across the Trust under management, positioning patients accurately and with minimal discomfort.
- Use a broad range of communication tools to engage with patients and carers to obtain satisfactory images on the first attempt.
- Empathise with patients and provide thoughtful responses to questions from patients and carers, including those with learning disabilities or lifelong conditions.
- Participate in policy and protocol development within UHPT Imaging that affects service users.
- Lead staff in implementing policy and service development changes.
- Collaborate with consultants and the head of service on strategic and operational management of the imaging service for Outpatients.
- Regularly teach, supervise, and performance-manage junior radiographers, support workers, apprentices, and students; conduct formal appraisals as required.
Note: This position carries a commitment to Agenda for Change compliant 7-day working across Derriford Hospital and peripheral sites. Flexible hours across the week may be required.
Qualifications
- HCPC registered Radiographer with current registration.
- Experience in general radiography and leadership roles within an acute NHS environment preferred.
- Experience with Radiology Information System, PACS, and hospital IT systems.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise learners and support staff; teaching and training responsibility is expected.
