JOB PURPOSE

To manage all areas of the finishing department: Flatpack, Window Patch, Glue.

To optimise production output for the finishing department through effective organisation, co-ordination and resource management.

Striving for continual improvements in machine productivity and efficiency, waste reduction, product quality and customer service levels.

  • SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To set and achieve targets in key performance in machine productivity and efficiency, waste, quality, customer service levels and Health & Safety
  • To ensure Team leaders are capable of meeting evolving business needs
  • To develop the process capability in line with changing technology
  • To develop employees both individually and as teams to ensure effective day to day management of people
  • To ensure effective inter-departmental communication
  • To improve customer quality and service levels to reduce customer complaints
  • Manage and control activities of all departments
  • Set departmental objectives and monitor performance
  • Identify recruitment and development needs
  • Handle discipline and grievance issues
  • Create and develop a team-working environment
  • Support Team Leaders in achieving weekly targets in respect of production output, work in progress, service levels and machine efficiencies
  • Manage within departmental budgets set and identify opportunities for cost reductions in areas such as overtime, consumables, maintenance and waste
  • Optimise equipment and resource usage for effective and efficient output
  • Be proactive in developing solutions to operational issues
  • Ensure effective communication within and from all areas of production to achieve common business aims
  • Provide regular performance statistics/ reports as directed
  • Liaise effectively with Union representatives as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with all existing systems, standards and procedures within all areas to satisfy both company and customer requirements- ISO, Health & Safety
  • Identify opportunities for improving systems of work, and successfully implement
  • Control waste effectively
  • Drive through and support the introduction of new systems and procedures
  • Direct and manage technical innovation and introduction within your department
  • Develop & implement corrective action plans short & long term to improve Quality, downtime and to reduce scrap & inventory
  • Drive productivity improvement & standardisation across the business
  • Provide training and instil a Lean culturethroughout the department
  • compliance to ISO9001, ISO45001 and ISO14001 Standards, relevant legislation and compliance obligations through adherence to training and work instructions

  • Technical expertise in all aspects of specific production processes relating to the finishing department
  • Full working knowledge of BRC & ISO9001
  • Essential experience of Lean Manufacturing
  • Strong Management/Leadership Skills
  • Evidence of Project Management in waste reduction
  • Able to demonstrate reducing downtime and improve efficiency’s
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment – FMCG preferred
  • Strong commercial awareness and business acumen
  • Computer literate, able to operate Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook/Email
