Do you want to work alongside communities, helping people come together and supporting them to make change? How about if we added that the change youâd be helping ordinary folk to lead would mean greener, healthier Coventry neighbourhoods where people enjoying time outdoors in nature was brought closer to home?
We are delighted to share our new vacancy for a full-time (37 hours per week) community organiser working on âNature in Towns and Citiesââpart of a national programme working towards significantly improved access to green space and the creation of nature rich urban areas in 100 towns and cities across the UK.
You will be community organising in communitiesâchiefly Hillfieldsâwhere there is least access to green space; building the capacity of local people to lead change of their own and to be at the heart of shaping neighbourhood plans.
The programme also aims to:
- Help address the challenges facing towns and citiesâespecially health inequalities, climate resilience and inclusive growth
- Unlock further investment to help local councils and communities achieve their ambitions together.
About you
Youâve already spent time working alongside communitiesâmaybe leading campaigns, helping people come together or supporting grassroots change. You know the buzz of turning an idea into action.
Weâre looking for a community organiser who can build strong, trusting relationships, uncover what matters to people and help them act collectively for the common good.
We value character, values and approach as much as technical skillsâbut for this role, youâll need to show youâve already had some handsâon experience:
- One year experience in community organising, campaigning or a related role
- A track record, paid or voluntary, of inspiring others to take actionâideally people with different backgrounds and perspectives from your own.
About the role
What youâll be doing:
- Holding regular oneâtoâone meetings with local people to understand their concerns, hopes and ambitions
- Identifying and supporting formal and informal leaders, helping them develop skills and confidence to lead change
- Mobilising groups to work together on issues that matter to themâfrom initial ideas to action that makes a difference
- Bringing forward âunderâreachedâ voices and making sure they are part of the conversation
- Creating and delivering a communications plan (including social media) to connect and inspire active citizens
- Participating in training, reflecting on your practice and sharing learning so we can all grow.
