Overview
In this Finance Transformation Associate Director role, you lead controllership transformation and close automation initiatives within Grant Thornton's Finance Consulting team. You’ll work directly with CFOs and Financial Controllers to redesign processes, implement automation and EPM technology, and deliver measurable improvements in close cycles and reporting. You’ll shape propositions, guide multi-engagement delivery, and help build GT’s reputation as a leading controllership adviser. This is a high-visibility role at the intersection of finance operations and technology with a strong impact on client outcomes.

Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end controllership transformation programmes from diagnostic to future-state design and implementation
- Oversee financial close automation workstreams, including solution design, vendor engagement, configuration, testing, adoption, and change management
- Advise on close technology platform selection with expertise in FloQast, OneStream, and Prophix
- Redesign close and consolidation processes, including calendar optimization, task management, reconciliation, and intercompany automation
- Develop and implement policy and control frameworks to reduce manual effort and audit risk
- Drive automation of journal entry, reconciliation, and variance analysis to shorten close times
- Translate finance and technology challenges into actionable roadmaps for clients to own
- Manage delivery across multiple engagements ensuring quality, timeline, and budget adherence
- Build and maintain relationships with CFOs/Controllers and lead client pitches and proposals
- Contribute to the development of GT’s controllership offerings and mentor a high-performing team
Key requirements
- Significant experience in controllership or financial close transformation, with leadership of complex programmes
- Hands-on implementation or advisory experience with close automation or EPM platforms (FloQast, OneStream, Prophix, Blackline or equivalent)
- Deep understanding of financial close cycles, reconciliation, consolidation, intercompany accounting, journal entry management, and statutory reporting
- Ability to design future-state close operating models across process, automation, controls, data, and people
- Experience engaging with senior client levels and building trusted relationships with CFOs and Controllers
- Track record of driving efficiency improvements through process redesign, policy clarity, and technology enablement
- Professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, ICAS or equivalent) preferred
- Strong commercial acumen to scope engagements, manage budgets, and identify revenue opportunities
