Overview
In this role you will shape indirect tax strategy for a diverse client base, delivering high-quality VAT guidance and leading projects within Grant Thornton’s collaborative, inclusive culture.
You’ll mentor junior staff, manage client scoping, delivery and billing, and ensure risk-aware advisory work.
The position blends technical depth with clear client communication and a strong focus on financial hygiene.

Responsibilities
- Scope, deliver and bill client work
- Guide junior staff in researching and producing quality work
- Provide technically accurate indirect tax advice with legislation, case law and analysis support
- Explain complex issues clearly to stakeholders with varying tax knowledge
- Produce technical work suitable for minimal review and client-ready communication
- Review the work of team members
- Adhere to risk management processes from onboarding to completion
- Manage billing, gross margin, utilisation and WIP
- Key requirements
- Experience of VAT / Indirect Taxes, from advisory or in-house environment
- CTA / ATT or equivalent tax qualification
- Experience managing a large and varied indirect/VAT client portfolio
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build long‑standing client relationships
- Experience leading projects within a mixed-discipline team
- Experience advising on complex indirect tax matters across VAT areas and sectors
