Overview
In this role you will help safeguard the firm’s independence across UK and international engagements, guiding personal independence processes and compliance. You’ll work within the Ethics & Independence team to support client-facing teams and colleagues, shaping governance and risk moderation. The position offers varied responsibilities, with scope to lead initiatives, mentor others and drive efficiency. Responsibilities
- Consistently complete work on time with quality in line with policies
- Take ownership from start to finish with a proactive mindset
- Analyse independence matters, identify risks and apply safeguards or escalation
- Develop junior team members through guidance and knowledge sharing
- Explain issues clearly and professionally to stakeholders
- Be an active listener and incorporate others’ viewpoints
- Collaborate across GT practice and QA function to build a positive brand
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive work
- Manage time effectively with prioritisation and project tools
- Demonstrate curiosity and professional scepticism, asking questions as needed
- Identify opportunities for efficiency or innovation
- Lead on wider independence activities and ad-hoc projects
- Respond to formal Ethics/Independence consultations
- Support onboarding and ongoing maintenance of financial interests in the recording system
- Support internal monitoring, including periodic review of financial interests
Key requirements
- Proven experience in Ethics and Independence within a professional services firm
- Knowledge of UK Ethics and Independence requirements (FRC Ethical Standard, ICAEW, IESBA)
- Strong judgement to interpret and apply policies practically
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to support and review others’ work and provide feedback
- Experience managing varied workload and communicating with senior stakeholders
- Proficient in MS Office 365 (Excel, Word)
- Experience with independence systems (e.g., GIS) is desirable
- Awareness of fit and proper considerations in accountancy firms (desirable)
