Role

New Ground Won’t Break Itself.

Our Birmingham Corporate Tax team is looking for an Assistant Manager to join and aid the growth of the tax practice in the Midlands, with a focus on the mid-market and owner-managed businesses (OMBs). We offer opportunities to develop and grow the portfolio of business, establish strong client and firm relationships, and contribute to domestic and cross-border tax assignments.

The team helps clients navigate the tax and sector landscape by providing tailored solutions to manage risks today and anticipate future changes. Flexible working is supported, including reduced hours and job shares.

Responsibilities

  • You’ll manage a portfolio of clients consisting of owner‑managed businesses, private equity backed and large groups, supporting them on their corporation tax affairs, including annual corporation tax work and specialist claims, and tax advisory projects such as group restructurings and international expansions.
  • You will supervise/review work by junior team members and, in most cases, report directly to Partners and Directors.
  • You’ll deliver corporate tax compliance and advisory services for clients, oversee your portfolio, liaise with Audit colleagues and other teams, and become the main point of contact for clients. You’ll coach and develop junior staff, proactively seek new business opportunities and participate in pitches/proposals.
  • You will organise the delivery of tax work and problem solve daily, becoming the key contact for clients and building internal/external networks. You will be commercially minded with a clear sense of client requirements.

Knowing you’re right for us

We have ambitious growth targets and are looking for people with ambition and drive who can work at pace, adapt to change, and stay curious to ensure we deliver high-quality services.

Minimum criteria: qualified (CA, ATT, CTA). We welcome candidates who may not tick every box and will support development.

Qualifications (minimum)

  • Experience of working in a corporate tax position.
  • Strong, up-to-date knowledge of UK corporation tax legislation and international tax concepts.
  • Experience in reviewing work and supervising staff in a tax environment.
  • Evidence of managing corporation tax compliance portfolios and tax accounting.
  • Excellent communication skills to support the team and client accounts.
  • Flexibility to juggle client commitments and meet deadlines.
