Grant Thornton is building a new digital team as part of the firm’s £500m multi‑year investment to transform how we work and deliver for clients. This investment is focused on redesigning our operating model around the way clients make decisions, using data, digital tools, and streamlined processes to remove friction, reduce duplication and provide faster, clearer insights. The new digital team will play a critical role in shaping and embedding these changes across the firm, developing tools, platforms, and digital capabilities that accelerate decision‑making, improve the client experience, and empower our people to work smarter.
As a Data Governance Manager within our practice, you will:
- Policies, standards, and procedures
- Support the Data Governance Lead with the development and delivery of the data governance elements of the Data Strategy, including data lineage, definitions, and quality.
- Implement, and maintain robust data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to data governance policies and procedures, and drive recommendations for improvements.
- Drive adherence to governance requirements through education, support, process design, and feedback loops.
- Identify gaps or opportunities for improvement in governance processes and propose practical enhancements.
- Identify and recommend solutions for any data governance risk areas.
- Data community & communications
- Liaise with data owners, stewards, and other data SMEs to achieve desired outcomes in a pragmatic way.
- Identify and create opportunities across relevant areas of the firm to promote data governance and build a data governance community, working collaboratively to bring together innovative ideas and best practice.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring ongoing review and communication of priorities.
- Data Governance assets
- Facilitate and maintain the development of data governance assets, including; data dictionary, data glossary, information asset register and relevant framework documentation.
- Facilitate workshops to capture definitions, lineage detail, ownership information and other metadata required for governance.
- Ensure awareness and understanding of tools, products and data catalogues which could support the management of data governance assets.
- Assist the Data Governance Lead in creation and approval of data definitions.
- Data Quality
- Assist with the development of data quality standards to be used to monitor and report on data quality across the firm.
- Develop, monitor, and promote processes for maintenance of reference data sets across the firm.
- Manage data quality/governance issues and incidents and escalate when required.
- Partner closely with the Data Quality Executive, who leads technical analysis, data profiling, rule development and measurement.
Joining us as a Data Governance Manager, the minimum criteria you’ll need is a clear understanding of data management concepts, including data lineage, data definitions and data quality management. Demonstrable experience of implementing a data governance framework and a clear understanding of data governance principles and practices.
It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way:
- Clear understanding of tools available on the market to manage data.
- Professional Services experience.
- Understand data architecture and data structures.
- Experience of performing reconciliations, analysing large volumes of data and resolving data/control issues.
