Forensic and Investigation Services (FIS) at Grant Thornton is a multi‑disciplinary team specialising in disputes, cyber, digital forensics and financial crime. We collaborate across the UK and internationally on projects such as asset tracing, contentious insolvency, economic consulting, regulatory matters and transactions.
The Associate Director role provides the opportunity to utilise accountancy and valuation skills to quantify loss on a range of commercial and contentious valuation disputes. The role integrates accounting, financial analysis, litigation and arbitration support, advising on quantum and valuation issues across complex, high‑stakes matters.

Responsibilities- Lead and deliver quantum of damages and contentious valuation engagements, serving as the main client contact.
- Quantify the financial impact of alleged breaches of contract or duty, including lost profits, diminution in value and business interruption losses across commercial disputes.
- Advise clients on transaction disputes such as post‑acquisition disputes, warranty and indemnity claims, and expert determinations.
- Prepare and review contentious business valuations for litigation, arbitration and other dispute resolution proceedings.
- Develop financial models and analyses, and explain conclusions clearly in both written and verbal formats.
- Produce expert witness reports for courts, arbitration tribunals, regulatory enquiries and other proceedings.
- Manage, develop and coach team members across quantum and valuation workstreams.
- Collaborate closely with legal teams, corporate finance colleagues, economists and other specialists in a multidisciplinary approach.
- Contribute to proposals, business development and marketing activities, including building relationships with law firms and in‑house legal teams.
- Experience managing quantum or valuation engagements within a professional services firm, boutique forensics practice or valuation house.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to critically assess and challenge financial information.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, and experience building and reviewing financial models.
- Experience drafting expert witness reports and/or expert determinations in quantum or valuation disputes.
- Familiarity with valuation methodologies (DCF, market multiples, net assets) in a contentious context.
- Experience managing teams in disputes or valuation workstreams.
- Flexibility to work across a range of industries, sectors and dispute types.
- Enthusiasm and ability to develop relationships with clients and instructing law firms.
