Every day our teams help businesses and individuals do what is right and achieve their goals. In a world of increasingly complex tax legislation, tax risk management and governance is on the agenda of a wide range of stakeholders — from Government to Boards of Directors. Our clients need to understand how the evolving tax governance landscape impacts their business, and they need advisers who will help them get ahead of it.

As a Tax Risk Management Associate Director within our Tax Controversy and Risk (TCR) team, you will help clients be proactive, improve and provide assurance over the performance of their tax operations — minimising risk both financially and reputationally. Our work will span compliance obligations such as the Senior Accounting Officer and Corporate Criminal Offence regimes, as well as advisory work helping clients develop efficient tax controls and processes.

We’re happy to talk flexible working and consider reduced hours and job shares; we’ll support you to balance your work and life.

Responsibilities:
  • Take ownership of interesting and challenging client work, acting as a main point of contact and managing project delivery end-to-end.
  • Have hands-on experience across different aspects of tax, working with a variety of clients and projects.
  • Guide clients through complex UK tax regimes — from developing best-in-class controls and processes to responding to compliance requirements and informing their risk management.
  • Deliver client workshops and training sessions on tax risk management topics.
  • Build and manage your own portfolio, supporting clients to meet relevant compliance obligations including the Senior Accounting Officer and Corporate Criminal Offence regimes.
  • Support on client proposals and pitches, using your technical expertise and specialism to drive a competitive edge for the firm.
  • Support Partners and Directors by implementing business plans and generating new business opportunities.
  • Build a focused internal and external network, generating fee-winning opportunities for your business area and the wider firm.
  • Deliver cross-lines-of-service training to raise awareness of the Tax Risk Management function across the firm.
  • Manage the work and performance of junior team members, teaching and guiding them while investing in your own development.
  • Act with integrity and in line with our organisational values.
Benefits:
  • Income protection.
  • Matched pension.
  • Life cover.
  • Private medical, including anytime access to Stronger Minds.
  • Professional subscriptions.
Qualifications:
  • The ability to identify areas of risk, carry out effective review and know when to refer upwards.
  • Strong knowledge of UK tax legislation and the tax governance landscape.
  • Experience managing a varied client portfolio.
  • Strong project management skills and the confidence to manage a number of competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical detail into clear, accessible advice for non-tax professionals.
  • ATT, CTA (or equivalent) qualification, or an equivalent level of experience in a related field (at least six years).
  • Demonstrable experience working in a tax or tax risk management team (in practice or in industry).
  • Experience leading a project team, delegating, reviewing work and offering constructive feedback to junior colleagues.

We have a flexible approach to requirements and will consider these alongside your strengths and motivations. It would be great if you have some of the following, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box — we’ll help you develop along the way.
