Our Business Risk Services (BRS) practice focuses on helping organisations manage risk, improve operational processes and realise strategic objectives. Our teams bring together deep sector knowledge with technical expertise to deliver internal audit, technology risk and assurance services to FTSE 100 and large, complex international organisations.
The Data, AI & Analytics team provides audit, assurance and advisory services to Grant Thornton clients in the UK and internationally. We help organisations meet their data and AI obligations, strengthen governance and controls, and unlock value from advanced analytics and AI in a responsible, proportionate and business‑relevant way.
As an Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in delivering AI assurance, data governance and advanced analytics internal audit engagements, working closely with the wider BRS team while developing your own technical depth and client-facing capability.

A look into the role
- Support the delivery of client engagements focused on AI assurance, data governance, advanced analytics and technology risk, across internal audit, risk and advisory work.
- Contribute to planning activities, including background research, risk assessments, audit scoping and preparation of planning documentation.
- Perform and oversee fieldwork, including data analysis, control testing, model reviews and AI risk assessments, ensuring work is completed in line with Grant Thornton methodologies and quality standards.
- Apply advanced data analytics and data science techniques to support audit testing, insight generation and assurance conclusions.
- Support the review and assurance of AI models, data pipelines, analytics solutions and governance frameworks, under the guidance of more senior team members.
- Draft clear, well‑structured sections of reports and presentations, translating technical findings into meaningful business insights for clients.
- Coach and support junior team members, helping to build their technical skills in data analytics, AI assurance and audit delivery.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of analytics tools, reusable assets and AI‑enabled audit approaches within the practice.
- Build strong working relationships with clients and colleagues, demonstrating professionalism and curiosity in all interactions.

Joining us as an Assistant Manager with a focus on AI assurance and advanced data analytics, the minimum criteria you’ll need includes:
- A degree or formal qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, AI, Machine Learning, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience working in internal audit, technology risk, data analytics, AI risk, or a related assurance or advisory role.
- Practical experience using data analytics, data science or AI techniques to support assurance, risk or control‑focused work.
- A strong interest in AI governance, responsible AI, model risk and data assurance, and how these apply in real‑world organisations.
It would be great if you also had some of the following
- Experience with data platforms, analytics tools or programming languages such as Python, SQL, Power BI, Alteryx, Knime, Tableau, Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric or similar.
- Familiarity with AI concepts such as machine learning models, model lifecycle management, data quality, bias, explainability or monitoring.
- Awareness of data governance, AI risk management or technology control frameworks (e.g. internal audit standards, data governance models, emerging AI assurance frameworks).
- Experience working with enterprise systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) or large, complex data environments.
- Progress toward a relevant professional qualification (e.g. CISA, AAIA, AIGP or similar), or an intention to pursue one.
