Our Birmingham Corporate Tax team is looking for an Assistant Manager to join our growing team and help facilitate the continued growth of the tax practice across the Midlands, with a particular focus on the mid‑market and OMBs. The position offers opportunities to develop and grow a portfolio of business, establish strong relationships with clients and across the firm, and contribute to domestic and cross‑border tax assignments. We also support flexible working, reduced hours and job shares to help balance work and life.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of owner‑managed businesses, private‑equity backed entities and large groups, providing support on their corporation tax affairs; handle annual corporation tax work, specialist claims and tax advisory projects such as group restructuring and international expansions.
- Supervise and review work prepared by junior members of the team, reporting directly to Partners and Directors when appropriate.
- Deliver corporate tax compliance and advisory services, liaising with Audit colleagues and other teams, and act as the main point of contact for clients in your portfolio.
- Coach and develop junior staff, proactively seek new business development opportunities and participate in pitch and proposal sessions.
- Organise tax work delivery and problem‑solve on a daily basis, building internal and external networks, enhancing communication skills and maintaining a commercial focus with a clear perception of client requirements.
Qualifications
- Qualified as a CA, ATT or CTA.
- Experience in a corporate tax position.
- Strong, up‑to‑date knowledge of UK corporation tax legislation and international tax concepts.
- Experience reviewing work and supervising staff in a tax environment.
- Evidence of managing corporation tax compliance portfolios and tax accounting.
- Excellent communication skills to support the team’s growth and delivery on key client accounts.
- Flexibility to juggle client commitments and meet deadlines.
