The Manufacturing Coordinator is responsible for controlling the flow of work to the manufacturing and quality work centers and driving production continuity. This role ensures that manufacturing operations are executed efficiently, in compliance with contract requirements, quality standards, and regulatory obligations (including ITAR, DFARS, and other federal requirements). The Manufacturing Coordinator acts as a key liaison between engineering, production, quality, supply chain, and program management to maintain schedule adherence and production flow.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees Dispatch and collaborates with Planning Group, Materials Group, Manufacturing Group and other stakeholders to ensure adequate flow of work to each work center.
- Facilitates schedule adherence and production throughput.
- Mitigates production delays and rework.
- Ensures accuracy of production data and documentation.
- Ensures manufacturing documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with government and customer requirements.
- Coordinates revisions and engineering changes (ECOs/ECNs) with engineering and production teams.
- Verifies that work instructions reflect current drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Participates in production meetings, program reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assists with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for production issues.
- Collaborates with procurement and inventory teams to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules.
- Monitors material shortages and expedites critical components.
- Coordinates outside processing (heat treat, coating, NDT, etc.) with vendors.
- Aligns with Planning Group to ensure a steady flow of work jackets to Dispatch.
- Ensures Materials Group efficient movement and documentation of inventory.
- Oversees the printing and issuance of work jackets to the manufacturing floors, verification of completed work jackets and return of completed work jackets to Planning Group.
- Tracks and manages job progress through all stages of production, including material preparation, machining, welding, inspection, and finishing.
- Communicates production schedules and dispatch priorities to Manufacturing Group, Planning Group, Materials Group and other stakeholders.
- Active participant in S&OP Meetings.
- Drives and eliminates barriers to material movements and job kitting.
- Ensures inventory integrity.
- Identifies and eliminates process bottlenecks and other resource constraints.
- Performs all duties of Dispatch Operator as needed.
- Coordinates with Planning Group to create/report Shipment Forecast.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for creating a professional, safe, and clean environment.
- Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by establishing effective relationships and networks with both managers/directors and workers.
- Abides by GSM Code of Ethics and Business Conduct standards and strictly observes all U.S. and foreign laws and regulations.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–7+ years of experience in manufacturing coordination, production control, or operations within a precision machining or fabrication environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows based computer program, and ERP/MRP based company-wide sales order administrative systems.
- Ability to measure performance to goals and standards.
- An ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and employee relations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; listens to others without interrupting; keeps emotions under control; remains open to others’ ideas and tries new things.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
