Granite State Manufacturing (GSM) is seeking an experienced Class A CNC Lathe Operator to join our precision machining team on first shift. This position is ideal for a highly skilled machinist capable of independently setting up, programming, and operating complex turning equipment to produce precision components supporting the U.S. Navy submarine program and other mission-critical defense platforms.
As a Class A CNC Lathe Operator, you’ll perform advanced setups, precision machining, and first-piece inspections on a range of CNC turning equipment. GSM operates Doosan VTLs, Mori SL and CL2000 lathes, Okuma LB4000 EX II, ProtoTRAK, and DMG Mori platforms, supporting both high-mix and large-part production. You’ll work closely with Planning and Supervision to execute jobs in accordance with the production schedule (IAW schedule), ensuring throughput, quality, and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Independently set up and operate CNC turning centers and VTLs.
- Review process plans, blueprints, and GD&T specifications for each operation.
- Verify dimensions using precision measuring instruments and ensure compliance with AS9100, NAVSEA, and customer standards.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, adjust tool offsets, and improve process stability.
- Collaborate with Quality and Engineering to resolve nonconformance and improve first-pass yield.
- Support and mentor Class B and C operators as part of GSM’s training culture.
- Maintain 5S standards, tooling condition, and proper documentation throughout each job.
- Partner with Planning and Supervision to ensure work is dispatched IAW production schedule.
- Minimum 5 years of CNC lathe experience, including setups and operation of VTL or multi-axis turning centers.
- Proficient with Fanuc, Okuma OSP, or ProtoTRAK controls.
- Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measurement techniques.
- Experience machining large and complex components from a variety of materials.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet delivery goals.
