Aurora Energy Services is a fast-growing specialist training provider supporting the renewable and low-carbon energy sector. Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Inverness, the business has expanded rapidly and now employs over 700 people. Aurora delivers industry-leading, accredited training across wind, solar, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, pumped hydro, and waste-to-energy. The organisation is approved to deliver GWO, ECITB and IRATA certified training and has recently secured external investment to accelerate the development of a national network of regional training hubs and workshop facilities.
This is a rare opportunity to join Aurora Energy Services at a pivotal stage of its growth. While the training platform is well established, the business remains in a phase of expansion, offering significant scope to shape strategy, influence direction, and leave a lasting impact. As Director of Training, you will bring deep expertise in training delivery, accreditation, and learning design, combined with strong commercial acumen. You will play a central role in expanding certification capability, developing new curricula, and building a “training centre of tomorrow” that sets industry benchmarks for quality, compliance, and innovation. This role offers both strategic influence and hands-on delivery, with responsibility for people leadership, external partnerships, and continuous improvement across all training activities.
The Director of Training is responsible for defining and delivering the company’s overall training strategy. This includes the design, delivery, accreditation and continual development of compliant, high-quality training programmes that meet both client and regulatory requirements. You will lead and develop Aurora’s trainer team, oversee certification and audit processes, and ensure the training function operates efficiently, commercially, and to the highest standards of safety and quality.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategy & Programme Development
- Develop and implement training strategies, materials and programmes aligned with company, client, statutory and industry-recognised standards.
- Identify opportunities to expand Aurora’s certification portfolio and introduce new training offerings.
- Ensure training programmes meet all regulatory, third-party and awarding-body accreditation requirements.
- Delivery & Operations
- Deliver training personally where required.
- Identify, organise and manage the resources required to deliver effective, efficient training programmes.
- Monitor training effectiveness, delegate feedback and client satisfaction, driving continuous improvement.
- Maintain oversight of training budgets, performance metrics and reporting to senior leadership.
- Quality, Compliance & Accreditation
- Liaise with awarding bodies, certification authorities and auditors to maintain approvals and successfully manage external audits.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, quality and performance standards.
- Support the development and continual improvement of the company’s integrated management system.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of trainers and training professionals.
- Build strong relationships with clients, candidates, colleagues and industry stakeholders.
- Actively contribute to marketing activities related to training, including website content, campaigns and employer brand development.
- Attend conferences, networking events and client meetings in line with company objectives and KPIs.
Experience & Skills
- Essential
- Proven track record of developing and delivering successful training courses and programmes.
- Experience managing training certification audits and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational, planning and time-management skills.
- Familiarity with a broad range of training methods and learning approaches.
- Strong IT capability, including Microsoft Office applications.

- Previous experience in a senior training leadership role.
- Commercial experience, including P&L responsibility.
- Experience motivating and managing teams.
- Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in Training/L&D, Education or Human Resources.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience delivering GWO and/or ECITB training.
