Location: Hybrid (home working with regular attendance at Edinburgh office and meetings in Edinburgh. The post holder will also be required to undertake occasional national travel, including travel to our Manchester office.)

About Grand Depart GB 2027

In 2027 the UK will host the Grand Depart of both the Tour De France and the Tour De France Femme, Avec Zwift. This will be the first time in history that both races have departed from the same country, outside of France. A landmark social impact programme will also be delivered across the UK, tackling inactivity, improving mental wellbeing, boosting economic growth and supporting communities to thrive.

The SPV is a Joint Venture between UKEL (a new sports events company) and British Cycling. Grand Depart GB 2027 Ltd is seeking an exceptional Event Manager to lead the delivery of the Grand Depart in Edinburgh. This high‑profile role will be central to the successful delivery of the opening stage of the 2027 Tour de France.

The ideal candidate will bring outstanding event management expertise alongside exceptional collaboration and stakeholder management skills. You will be confident operating in a complex, high‑pressure environment and be adept at working across large, multi‑stakeholder programmes. Experience of delivering major international events is essential. A strong understanding of Edinburgh’s events landscape and stakeholder network would be highly advantageous.

What will you be doing?

The Event Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight, coordination, planning and operational activity of all elements required to deliver the Tour de France 2027 Grand Depart in Edinburgh. The role will ensure that all partners – including Grand Depart GB (GDGB), the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC), Scottish Government, ASO, Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (REMT) and other delivery agencies - fulfil their agreed responsibilities for the Grand Depart in Edinburgh, and wider activities taking place in the city over the event week.

The postholder will be employed by Grand Depart GB and will work in close partnership with the central operations team at Grand Depart GB and the events team at the City of Edinburgh Council. The role will be required to ensure seamless alignment between central operations planning and local authority delivery. This post is central to ensuring that planning is coordinated, risks are managed, dependencies are tracked, and all organisations remain on schedule to deliver a safe, compliant and world class event.

What we’re looking for:

  • Extensive and significant demonstrable experience managing major events, ideally city centre or international level sporting events. Cycling expertise is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex, multi‑agency delivery programmes.
  • Strong understanding of traffic management, crowd management, safety planning, licensing and logistical operations.
  • Proven ability to work within structured governance models.
  • Experience working with local authorities, emergency services and government partners.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation abilities; demonstrable experience of managing senior level stakeholders.
  • Strong programme and project management capability, including risk, scheduling, dependency management and budget management.
  • Ability to work with technical drawings, site plans, traffic and crowd management plans and safety documentation.
  • Clear, concise and confident communication.
  • Ability to lead under pressure, make informed decisions and maintain situational awareness in dynamic environments.
  • Experience working with sporting governing bodies, rights‑holders or broadcast partners.
  • Knowledge of Edinburgh’s operational, transport or events landscape.
  • Understanding of international cycling events and associated technical standards.
