We are looking for a fully qualified train driver with at least two years of productive train driving experience holding a European Train Driving Licence. The role involves ensuring safe and timely journeys for our customers.

Role and Working Hours

The position is based on a 35‑hour working week over a roster of seven days, averaged over the roster cycle period. Shift lengths vary, with some starting as early as 0300 or ending at 0200. Rostered shifts are provided in advance to aid planning, and occasional overnight lodgings in London may be required. Full route training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure personal safety and that of others at all times.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
  • Comply with all relevant rules, procedures and policies.
  • Undergo competence/proficiency assessments as required by company procedures and the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Maintain currency of route or traction knowledge and notify line manager immediately of any shortfall.
  • Prepare, drive and dispose of traction units safely and as set out by the relevant instructions.
  • Identify, locate and, where necessary, rectify or suitably tend to train and traction unit faults.
  • Follow correct fault reporting procedures.
  • Ensure receipt and understanding of any notices, bulletins or other information relating to the job and confirm receipt as prescribed.
  • Maintain currency of all personal publications and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with and assist staff and customers in the interests of safety and customer service.
  • Wear uniform and safety clothing provided.

Qualifications

  • European Train Driving Licence and a minimum of two years in the current post following completion of training, examination and route learning.
  • Thorough knowledge of operational rules, regulations, and instructions relating to train driving.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, remain alert and vigilant, customer‑focused, punctual and reliable.
  • Must live within 60‑minute drive of the depot or be willing to relocate for the role.
