Design Manager
Our client is a national civil contractor looking for an experienced Design/Project Manager based in the Central Belt of Scotland to oversee a large multi‑million‑pound national contract.
The role requires full infrastructure management of the project and delivering the best solutions from concept to completion, acting as the primary point of contact between the design and construction teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead permanent and temporary works designs.
- Manage the design process with a focus on buildability and efficiency to develop optimal solutions from concept through to delivery.
- Develop and coordinate the Design Deliverables schedule with designers.
- Liaise with project teams to ensure design aligns with expectations.
- Prepare and agree design programme with each designer and incorporate it into the main programme.
- Chair regular meetings with designers to monitor design progress and update programmes as necessary.
- Ensure design is managed according to relevant operating procedures.
- Manage the flow of information from the design team and advise the project team of any impacts on progress and programme.
- Provide technical input and advice for live projects and tenders.
- Support procurement by providing necessary information to enable procurement of materials and subcontractors.
- Review developing design and manage the technical query process.
- Contribute to tender, design, construction, and variation/compensation event programmes as required.
Qualifications
- Excellent understanding of the design process and interface management between disciplines.
- Track record of site‑based experience and high level of knowledge of design and construction processes.
- Strong IT skills; proficiency in all software/IT systems relevant to the role.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts and ability to take appropriate action.
- Working knowledge of Auto CAD.
- Professional body membership (where applicable).
