  • Position Overview
  • Assistant Accountant (Financial Management) – NLC 9

Key Responsibilities

  • Discharge financial management duties and responsibilities in accordance with Council’s Financial Regulations.
  • Provide responsive, accessible financial advice and support to budget holders and other client officers.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial and budgetary control systems.
  • Assist in the preparation and completion of the Council’s statutory accounts, statistical returns, and other reporting requirements.
  • Undertake detailed financial monitoring of capital and revenue income and expenditure accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with the Council’s Financial Regulations and Scheme of Financial Delegation.
  • For Assistant Accountant (Schools), extend responsibilities to the Devolved School Management Scheme, providing financial advice to Head Teachers and Heads of Establishment.

Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC in Accounting, or an Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) Level 2 qualification (Certificate in Accounting – SCQF Level 6), or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Minimum of two years practical experience within an accounting and finance environment.
  • Experience with financial ledger and accounting systems.
  • Experience using spreadsheets, databases, and other relevant ICT skills.
  • Analytical, numeracy, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organise work effectively to meet deadlines.

Hybrid model – home working and office-based work at the Civic Centre offices in Motherwell.

  • Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 per year (NLC 9 band).
  • 27 days annual leave plus 6 public holidays.
