About the Role

GRAHAM continues to build on its long standing reputation for delivering high quality, award winning construction projects across the UK and Ireland. As part of our continued growth, we're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Building Division in Edinburgh. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key commercial role on a £150m project, providing cost control, commercial insight and support from project inception through to completion. You'll work closely with clients, subcontractors and internal project teams, while also supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will:

  • Manage and oversee quantity surveying and commercial activities on assigned projects
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans and financial forecasts
  • Carry out cost analysis, value engineering and risk management
  • Manage procurement activities, including tendering and subcontractor appointments
  • Prepare, review and administer contracts and commercial documentation
  • Monitor project costs, variations, valuations and final accounts
  • Report on project financial performance and commercial risks
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards and company procedures
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal teams
  • Support, mentor and guide junior quantity surveyors where required
  • Undertake site visits and attend project meetings as necessary

Essential Requirements

We're keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Extensive post qualification experience (PQE) as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
  • Experience working across a wide range of private and public sector building projects
  • Strong commercial awareness and a detailed understanding of construction costs
  • Proven experience in procurement, subcontract management and contract administration
  • In depth knowledge of cost control, valuations, variations and final accounts
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulations, construction methodologies and best practice
  • A proven ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines

Desirable Criteria

The following would be advantageous but not essential:

  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, RICS or a similar professional body
  • Experience working on large scale or complex building projects
  • Exposure to modern methods of construction (MMC)
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior members of the commercial team
  • A proactive approach to value engineering and cost optimisation
