Our Building division continues to expand across the North West, and we are looking to support this growth with the addition of an established Design Manager, who will lead and coordinate design and technical teams across a range of building projects and tenders.
Working as an integrated member of our project delivery teams, you'll help shape design solutions, guide consultants, and ensure information is clear, coordinated and buildable. You will also contribute to project bidding and pre-construction activities, supporting the continued success and development of the Building Division.
We're looking for someone with experience across both the design and construction of building projects, with proven experience of working on large scale residential projects. Sound understanding of engineering principles and application are essential for this role, as is excellent technical knowledge, creative thinking and strong team working skills.
We welcome degree-qualified candidates, but will also consider HND/HNC-qualified applicants with strong practical experience. Chartered or Incorporated membership of a relevant professional body is desirable.
About the Role:
As our Design Manager, you will be at the forefront of managing design processes, ensuring buildability, efficiency, and optimal solutions. Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing permanent and temporary works designs for live projects and tenders.
- Collaborating closely with tender and project teams to align design expectations.
- Managing design programmes, incorporating them into the main programme.
- Fulfilling Designer duties for pre-construction operations under CDM Regulations.
- Providing design input for tender submissions and offering technical guidance as needed.
- Coordinating temporary works design elements and facilitating seamless information flow.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
We are seeking a candidate with:
- Proven experience in a similar role with a main contractor.
- Solid exposure to residential projects.
- Strong project management and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Dedication to quality and excellence in design execution.
Essential Criteria:
- Formal Qualification in Architecture or Construction Management.
- Proven experience in design management with a main contractor or senior role in architectural practice.
- Excellent understanding of the design process and management of interfaces between disciplines.
- Strong site-based experience and deep understanding of how design impacts construction.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit and similar design software; strong IT skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Understanding of how design decisions affect cost, risk and change management.
- Proven ability to deliver design on large-scale construction projects.
Desirable Criteria:
- Hold MCIOB, MICE, CIAT or working toward it.
- Working knowledge of SketchUp, Revit, Navisworks.
- Understanding of JCT, NEC or similar contracts and ability to take appropriate action.
