Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Project Engineer to support our wider Civil Engineering Division on a major water framework in Northern Ireland. Ideally, you will have experience working with a Main Contractor on Water projects.
The M&E Project Engineer will be responsible for:
- Managing Mechanical & Electrical elements of live civil engineering projects and tenders predominantly on Northern Ireland Water contracts.
- Meeting with designers and subcontractors on a regular basis to develop a contract programme and to monitor progress of the design, procurement, installation and commissioning works against the contract programme.
- Early identification of potential project risks and taking appropriate mitigation action in accordance with contract requirements.
- Liaising with clients and their consultants/representatives as part of the project management structure.
- Liaising with tender and project teams to ensure design is developed in line with expectations.
- Site supervision of works, ensuring works are planned, coordinated and completed in accordance with company Safety, Health & Environmental policies.
- Support Civil Engineering Division on the ongoing monitoring, compliance and performance of MEICA contractors.
- Ability to foresee potential MEICA risk and mitigate/report.
- Review of MEICA design submissions and ability to assess with technical understanding.
- Implementation and compliance with GRAHAM & client site safety rules including RAMS review and permitting as required.
- Providing M&E technical input and advice as required for live projects and tenders.
- Coordinating any temporary M&E services required.
- Providing M&E construction methodology input and incorporating in the programme where required.
- Designing of minor work elements to satisfy project specific requirements.
- Managing the flow of information from the M&E design team and subcontractors and advising the project team of any impact on progress and programme.
- Providing necessary information to the Procurement Department to enable the procurement of materials and subcontractors.
- Preparation and submission of handover documents including Inspection & Test Plans / commissioning plans, developing O&M / Safety file content, NIW BUDI asset returns and commissioning records.
- Introducing improvements and innovations where appropriate.
- Liaising with the Commercial and Project Management teams on commercial aspects relevant to the role as required.
- Understanding of NI Water MEICA processes and specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
Person Specification
Technical Competencies
Essential:
- BSc/Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (HND/HNC/Trade qualifications/equivalent may be appropriate).
- Experience of working on Northern Ireland Water or other water utility construction projects and/or experience of the design process for water and wastewater civil projects.
- Having an understanding of the construction process, such that designs are developed with appropriate regard for buildability.
- Possessing a sound technical understanding of M&E industrial or water utility applications.
Desirable:
- Electrical / ICA supervisory experience of Water & Wastewater industry.
- Experience of planning and coordinating M&E subcontractors in civil engineering contracts.
- Good awareness and application of commercial forms of contract.
