We are looking for a commercially astute and technically strong Qualified Financial Accountant to join our finance team. This role is critical in supporting the financial integrity of large-scale construction projects, ensuring compliance with accounting requirements, and delivering insightful financial analysis to drive project performance and strategic decision-making. This is an exciting role within a fast-paced environment, so strong analytical skills are essential. To be successful we require you to be proactive, and diligent, with an eye for continuous improvement across the finance function. You will have the ability to impact at all levels, therefore it is essential you are a strong communicator.

Working for the Divisional Financial Controller, this is an interesting and varied role for someone looking for a first move into industry or a step up in responsibility commercially. This role will also provide the opportunity to work on the development of reporting, and on enhancing the finance challenge role across the business through the use of data analytics/business intelligence.

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assisting in the monthly management accounts process, including:
  • P&L and balance sheet reconciliations to the financial reporting system;
  • Analyse Project Costings and reconcile to the ledger; providing a challenge function to the commercial reporting;
  • Adherence to cut-off dates with timely preparation, compilation and review of relevant documentation;
  • Preparation of monthly journals.
  • Analyse amounts recoverable on contracts balances, client and supplier retention balances and drive improvements to working capital management as a result.
  • Customer cash forecasting, and the tracking of related raising of invoices and cash receipts.
  • Initiate and manage good accounts housekeeping actions and identify and report on any business problems that need addressed.
  • Assisting with the budget and forecasting processes.
  • Provide assistance in the compliance of all divisional corporate tax requirements (incl. HMRC construction industry specific tax requirements), and the implementation of any changes in legislation.
  • Design reports to provide pertinent management information and use to interrogate transactions.
  • Highlight any weaknesses in compliance or internal controls and recommend / implement improvements.
  • Investigate IT accounting issues and instigate appropriate corrective action.
  • Interconnect with appropriate IT staff or consultants where required.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the finance areas of the ERP system, and connected reporting systems.
  • Assist in the year-end external audit process including preparation of supporting schedules and compilation and review of supporting documentation.

    Essential:

    • ACA, ACCA or CIMA Qualified
    • Experience with using an accounting and finance system
    • Vast experience of Excel functions and their day to day use within the finance department
    • Functional knowledge of best practice general accounting processes
    • Understanding of internal controls
    • Strong problem solving ability
    • Attention to detail

    Desirable:

    • Construction experience
    • CIS/VAT experience
