People who work in Commercial Management are called Quantity Surveyors. GRAHAM Construction operates across the UK and Ireland, delivering value for money and innovative solutions for clients. What does a Quantity Surveyor do? A Quantity Surveyor makes sure the financial position of construction projects is accurately reported and controlled. They manage the contractual relationships between the various parties involved in a project. Responsibilities Check and process sub-contract payments for work completed Ensure Subcontractors are not charging for work that wasn’t completed Produce schedules of what materials are needed to complete a project for procurement from sub-contractors Prepare and manage the accounts for projects Produce regular reports on cost and value Produce spend profiles and regular forecasts for projects Identify and manage risk and opportunities Take off drawings and perform site measurement Liaise with onsite teams to obtain site records and reconcile with works claimed Agree changes with Client’s commercial team Deal with all legal contracts and their clauses for a project Technical Competencies Essential: Studying Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management to degree level at university or technical college Understanding of construction management practices Strong communication skills Willing to relocate throughout the UK and Ireland Full UK Driving Licence Desirable: Health effective communication and professional presentation Customer focus and ability to build sustainable relationships Influencing, initiative, and the ability to work with minimal supervision Team player, willing to contribute to other activities and resolve issues Negotiation skills and understanding of contractual rights and obligations About You – Routes to Becoming a Quantity Surveyor Graduates: Two-year programme with technical and interpersonal development, mentored training, and pathway to chartership, with early responsibility on challenging projects. Industrial Placements: 3–12 months with structured learning, potential for a scholarship award and graduate employment offer. Technical Apprenticeships: Entry points from GCSE/A Level/BTEC with paid work experience and progression toward professional membership. Summer Placements: Work experience to gain insight into a Commercial Management role.
