Grafton Banks Finance are working with an SME commercial business with offices in Worthing, West Sussex to recruit an Accounts Assistant on a full-time permanent basis. Working 4 days in office and 1 day from home. Reporting into the Finance Director and working within a small friendly team. As Accounts Assistant, you'll be involved in a broad range of financial and accounting tasks, supporting the business with daily, weekly, and monthly processes. This is a varied and vital role in a small finance team where you'll take ownership of key functions such as purchase ledger, expenses, cash handling, and supporting management accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Purchase Ledger
    • Process supplier invoices, match to purchase orders and delivery notes
    • Ensure invoices are authorised in line with approval limits
    • Maintain and reconcile the purchase ledger, resolving any discrepancies
    • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams regarding invoice queries
    • Assist with setup of new supplier accounts
  • Cash & Banking
    • Assist with customer account reconciliation and credit control activities
    • Daily cashbook maintenance and reconciliation
    • Monitor and reconcile bank transactions
    • Prepare and process payment runs (BACS/international payments)
  • Expenses
    • Process staff expenses and ensure claims comply with company policy
    • Post and reconcile corporate credit card transactions

Key Skills required for the job:

  • AAT Level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in an accounts/finance assistant role
  • Strong working knowledge of purchase ledger and invoicing
  • Confident with Microsoft Excel (basic formulas, lookups, reconciliation templates)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
