Overview
In this role you will act as a senior technical advisor and SME within Grafana’s Field Engineering team, guiding strategic deals and complex customer engagements. You will build reference architectures, craft value-based stories for the sales team, and own scalable training content. You will operate with minimal supervision on high-impact engagements and mentor other engineers. This position blends technical leadership with product strategy, enabling customers to adopt Grafana technologies at scale.

Responsibilities
- Advise on strategic deals and complex customer engagements with Solution Engineers and Observability Architects
- Serve as SME with deep Grafana Platform knowledge and multiple Grafana technologies
- Craft and deliver value-based stories to help technically close deals
- Create and curate training content (workshops, guides, demo scripts) and align with product roadmap
- Architect and maintain live demo/POV infrastructure for scale, ensuring reliability and security
- Influence product direction and surface enablement gaps in product planning
- Present to customers and at marketing events as Grafana ambassador
- Provide technical guidance and best practices to customers and internal teams
- Contribute to product documentation and organizational knowledge via white papers and blogs
- Mentor Senior and Staff Solution Engineers and Field Engineers
Key requirements
- 8+ years of related technical experience
- 2+ years in a Senior Field Engineer role or equivalent
- Deep Grafana Platform SME plus broad Observability tech knowledge
- Adjacent domain expertise (e.g., IoT, AI/ML)
- Experience creating product training assets
- Cross-functional collaboration with PM and Engineering for enablement content
- Proficiency with at least one modern programming language
- Linux familiarity
- Experience using AI tools to assist coding while owning final quality decisions
- Ability to architect applications on AWS/Azure/GCP with IaC (Terraform) and knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, Serverless, Microservices
