Overview
In this role, you will help build the underlying storage system for Grafana’s general-purpose data platform. You will own parts of the database stack, from ingestion to query execution, and shape a scalable, multi-tenant SaaS foundation. You’ll enable AI agents and internal tools to retrieve data efficiently while collaborating with product and infrastructure teams to balance speed and reliability. This position offers autonomy on an early-stage team with the potential to evolve as the project matures, contributing to a broader mission of bringing observability and AI together across the enterprise.

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and operate ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, and data/storage formats
- Define and build a multi-tenant SaaS architecture with tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, and reliable service boundaries
- Develop APIs and interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal apps to retrieve data quickly
- Collaborate with product and infrastructure to balance rapid experimentation and long-term reliability
- Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards; use observability to improve reliability
- Contribute to technical direction, including architecture, storage choices, API contracts, and deployment patterns
- Communicate effectively across teams and take ownership of database solutions
Key requirements
- Strong engineering skills with production-grade software experience
- Familiarity with AI technologies and practical implementation mindset
- Ability to iterate quickly and handle ambiguity, with ownership mindset
- Collaborative, feedback-oriented, and solutions-focused
- Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, and query engines
- Proficiency in Golang, C++, or Rust
- Experience in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience using observability tools to troubleshoot and improve system behavior
