What type of things will I be working on?

On this 1-year graduate scheme starting September 2027, you will liaise with specialists from Renishaw's other divisions and get involved in all stages of product development, including:

  • Initial product and technology research
  • Design, implementation and test of new products
  • Providing support for newly released products, investigating and resolving problems that may occur in the field for existing products.

During the scheme you will gain experience of the different ways physics and related technical skills are employed at Renishaw, with an emphasis on long-term research and development of future product platforms. This might include:

  • Construction and measurement of test rigs and concept demonstrators
  • Developing achievable solutions to complex mathematical/physical problems
  • Optical and electro-mechanical component testing
  • Devising targeted experiments and analysing results critically
  • Systems engineering, combining knowledge of underlying mechanisms with practical implementation
  • Applying the scientific method to inform design decisions for multiple engineering disciplines
  • Modelling of optical/thermal/mechanical properties via numerical simulation and/or analytical techniques.

Where will I be working?

This role is based at one of our main sites near Wotton-under Edge in Gloucestershire. Since our Renishaw sites are located in semi-rural areas, applicants should ensure they have reliable means of transport to reach the site, as public transportation options may be limited. Alternatively, applicants should be willing to relocate to the local area.

What do I need?

We’re looking for candidates expecting a 2:1 or above (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely related degree.

Training and development is excellent so candidates with no experience but a keen interest in physics and optics will be strongly considered. If you are excited about the role but feel as though you don’t meet all the requirements, we would encourage you still to apply.
