What type of things will I be working on?

On this 1-year Graduate Scheme, starting in September 2027, you’ll work alongside experienced scientists and engineers to develop practical skills in materials analysis, identification, characterisation, failure analysis and materials selection.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across a range of areas, including:

  • Materials identification, characterisation and preparation
  • Industrial manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Inspection and analysis, using advanced equipment such as scanning electron microscopes, spectrometers, atomic force microscopes and thermogravimetric analysers
  • Non-destructive testing, including 2D X-ray and industrial 3D X-ray computed tomography (XCT)
  • Destructive testing, including tensile and fatigue testing

Throughout the scheme, you’ll build your knowledge of engineering materials and practices while exploring areas that interest you and could shape your future career. You’ll work on a mix of projects that develop your core skills and challenge you to apply your knowledge to real-world engineering problems.

You’ll also work closely with teams across our business, including Materials Analysis and Research, Encoder Products, Machine Tool Products and Additive Manufacturing, giving you a broad understanding of how materials science supports our products and technologies.

Where will I be working?

This role is based out of one of our main sites in New Mills near Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire. Since our Renishaw sites are located in semi-rural areas, applicants should ensure they have reliable means of transport to reach the site, as public transportation options may be limited. Alternatively, applicants should be willing to relocate to the local area.

What do I need?

We're looking for students who are currently undertaking a relevant degree such as Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Biomedical Materials or Materials Chemistry or Physics.

Training and development is excellent so candidates with no experience but a keen interest in materials science will be strongly considered. If you are excited about the role but feel as though you don’t meet all the requirements, we would encourage you still to apply.
