Based in Porthmadog, this established accountancy practice offers graduates the opportunity to develop in a friendly, professional environment. With around 40 employees and approximately six trainees, you will have a peer group while still gaining access to experienced partners and directors. Strong staff retention reflects their collaborative culture, with several current senior leaders having started as graduates and many trainees remaining with the firm after qualification.

The Role

As a Graduate Trainee Accountant, you will learn the core skills needed for a successful career in accountancy while working towards ACA or ACCA. You can choose the professional qualification that matches your ambitions and receive funded training and study time during working hours. From the outset, you will gain client-facing experience through telephone and face-to-face communication. You will start by building strong foundations in bookkeeping, VAT and accounting systems, then develop your technical knowledge and take on greater responsibility as you progress.

  • Study towards your chosen ACA or ACCA professional accountancy qualification.
  • Process financial data accurately using IRIS accounting software.
  • Prepare VAT returns and support accurate client accounting work.
  • Complete bookkeeping using QuickBooks, Xero and Sage.
  • Build professional client relationships by phone and face-to-face.
  • Develop accounting knowledge while taking on increasing responsibility.

Requirements

We are looking for a motivated graduate with a genuine interest in accountancy and a willingness to learn. You do not need to have extensive experience; we value potential, communication skills and a growth mindset.

Must-Have

  • Strong interest in pursuing a professional accountancy qualification.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related subject.
  • Fluency in Welsh.
  • Local to Porthmadog or strongly connected to the area.
  • Comfortable working fully office-based with regular client contact.

Nice-to-Have

  • 2:1 or First-class degree, although a 2:2 will be considered with mitigating circumstances.
  • Previous office-based experience.
