What is wealth management?
Wealth management brings financial planning and investment management together into a single, coordinated service, helping clients make informed decisions, manage their wealth with confidence and plan for the future.
As a Wealth Graduate Trainee, you'll be training to become a Wealth Manager, with exposure to a range of enabling business areas, and specialisms such as Investment Management, Portfolio Management, Financial Planning and Wealth Planning.
What your journey could look like
Over two years, you'll rotate through different areas of our Wealth business, including Investment Management and Financial Planning. You'll also spend time in teams that support the success of our Wealth Management business, such as Research, Operations, Investment Risk and Business Development.
Your first few months
- Learn about Rathbones, our clients and how we work
- Build relationships across the business
- Start working towards your professional qualifications
- Develop your understanding of wealth management and financial markets
Throughout the programme
- Gain hands-on experience across a range of teams
- Build technical knowledge and practical skills
- Learn from experienced colleagues and industry professionals
- Develop your professional network
- Explore different career pathways
Towards the end of the programme
- Continue your professional development and qualifications
- Explore opportunities to move into a permanent client-facing role
Support every step of the way
We'll support you throughout your programme with:
- A buddy to help you settle in
- Professional qualifications (Level 4 Investment Advice Diploma), followed by relevant Level 7 qualifications such as Chartered Wealth Manager or Chartered Insurance Institute on successful completion of the programme
- Continued development, including an assigned mentor, in-person and online facilitated learning and opportunities to build your professional network
- Opportunities to connect with other graduates and early-career colleagues, both internally and externally
- Investment20/20 membership
As a graduate, you'll also join our NextGen Network, bringing together trainees from across the UK to build connections, share experiences and support one another throughout the early stages of their careers.

Eligibility requirements
To apply, you'll need:
- A 2:1 undergraduate degree in any subject
- To be available to start on 13 September 2027
- Unfortunately, sponsorship cannot be offered for this role

What’s the application process?
- Application Questions: To apply, you will need to answer 3 application questions to showcase your transferable skills. Rathbones operate a blind screening process so your CV will not be reviewed by the team at any stage of this process.
- Online assessment & Video interview: a chance to share your motivations, skills, and personality.
- Teams Interview with the GRB Rathbones team
- Assessment Centre (Bristol office - 8th December): meet our team, experience our culture, and see why Rathbones is the right place for you.
- Final Interview (Online - mid December): competency based interview
Application guidance:
Rathbones operate a blind screening process meaning your CV will not be seen by the team at any stage. Please therefore use the application questions as an opportunity to showcase your transferable skills, drawing on evidence from your experiences that you feel are specifically transferable to this role.
Examples could include any hobbies, extracurricular activity, academic projects, work experience or voluntary experience you may have. This can, but does not need to directly relate to the industry. Your examples should be recent, and where possible have taken place within the last 2 years.
