If you want to start an accounting career with structured training and a clear route towards professional qualifications, this is a strong opportunity to learn in practice. You’ll build practical bookkeeping skills while developing towards greater client responsibility and, potentially, AAT or ACCA study support.
The Company
You’ll join a growing central Bristol accountancy practice with a team of just under 20 people and plans to expand further over the next two years. The culture is collaborative and supportive, with colleagues encouraged to share knowledge and develop together. You’ll work with clients across varied sectors, while senior colleagues provide the guidance and technical support needed to build your confidence in practice.
The Role
This role is designed to help you develop strong foundations in bookkeeping, client communication and day-to-day accounting processes. It is not an accounts preparation position, so previous accounts preparation experience is not required. You’ll complete a structured induction and technical training before gradually taking on more responsibility. After successfully completing your six-month probation, the firm can sponsor AAT or ACCA qualifications. As your experience grows, you can progress towards managing a portfolio of around 20 clients, with possible scope to move into accounts preparation after around 9–12 months.
- Complete bank reconciliations, ledger management and accurate financial data entry.
- Process client expense claims accurately and within required timescales.
- Communicate with clients by Teams, telephone and occasional face-to-face meetings.
- Explain financial information clearly and professionally to a varied client base.
- Work towards client deadlines while maintaining strong standards of accuracy.
- Develop towards managing your own portfolio of approximately 20 clients.
Benefits and Perks
You’ll join a practice that combines professional development with flexibility and a supportive working culture. As well as a starting salary of £25,000, you will also get the following benefits:
- Performance-based bonuses.
- Pension plan.
- 37.5-hour week with flexible start and finish times between 7am and 7pm.
- Structured induction and technical training.
- AAT or ACCA sponsorship after successful completion of six-month probation.
- Funded study support, exam leave and ongoing professional development.
Requirements
Must-Have
- AAT, IAB, relevant A Levels or a relevant university degree.
- Able to commute to central Bristol five days per week.
- Genuine motivation to begin a career as an Accounts Assistant or Bookkeeper.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Nice-to-Have
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice.
- Familiarity with Xero, Sage or QuickBooks.
