This is a 12-month undergraduate placement for students who want hands-on exposure to large-scale, real-world engineering projects — from early design through to build, testing and commissioning. You’ll join a major UK engineering organisation operating at the cutting edge of naval and marine systems, gaining experience that goes far beyond a typical office-based placement.

Key criteria

  • Currently studying a Bachelor’s degree (any discipline considered)
  • On track for a minimum 2:2
  • Available to complete a 12-month placement
  • Strong interest in engineering, technology or applied problem-solving
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions and take responsibility
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment

The role

As an Undergraduate Engineering Placement Student, you’ll gain broad exposure across a full engineering lifecycle within a specialist “whole-boat” engineering discipline. Your experience may include:

  • Supporting design and manufacturing activities
  • Simulation and modelling using specialist software
  • Exposure to build, launch, test and commissioning phases
  • Working alongside experienced engineers on live projects

You’ll take on real responsibility from day one, contributing to projects that matter while developing practical skills you can take forward into your career.
