As a Construction Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprentice, you’ll play a hands-on role in the cost, contract and commercial management of a complex, multi-billion-pound construction programme. Alongside real project experience, you’ll study towards a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying (Construction) and work towards professional recognition with industry bodies such as RICS or CICES. This role is ideal for detail-driven, commercially minded individuals who want to combine academic study with practical, real-world impact.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting the cost management and financial control of complex construction works
- Assisting with contract procurement, negotiation and award of specialist packages
- Managing contracts with a focus on cost, risk and value
- Monitoring project expenditure and valuing completed construction work
- Supporting dispute avoidance and commercial issue resolution
- Working closely with internal teams and external contractors to ensure project success
- Contributing to the commercial performance and long-term value of the project
Learning & Qualification
- Degree: BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying (Construction) – Level 6
- Delivery: Two one-week block releases per year at a UK university
- Professional Progression: Programme aligns with chartership pathways (e.g. RICS / CICES)
- End Point Assessment: Typically completed within 6 months after the degree
Location & Working Pattern
- Primary base: Suffolk (site and office-based)
- Occasional travel to other UK locations as part of placements
- Learning is delivered remotely alongside on-site project experience
Key Criteria (What We’re Looking For)
- Five GCSEs at grades 9–4 / A–C, including Maths, English and a Science
- 112 UCAS tariff points from A-Levels, BTEC or equivalent Level 3 qualifications
- Strong interest in construction, quantity surveying or commercial management
- Genuine motivation to work within large-scale infrastructure or sustainable energy
- Strong numerical ability and attention to detail
- Interest in contracts, cost control or commercial decision-making
- Ability to work across teams and communicate clearly with stakeholders
- Organised, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment
- High standards of integrity, professionalism and ethical behaviour
