This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of finance, infrastructure and public policy, helping to shape how new reservoirs, water recycling schemes and national transfer networks are financed and delivered.

This placement sits inside the team that oversees the future pipeline of UK water infrastructure. You'll be supporting projects such as water recycling and desalination plants. You'll also work closely with RAPID (the alliance between government and regulators responsible for progressing major water infrastructure). This is real project finance, not admin.

  • Review public and private investment models
  • Analyse financial models and business cases
  • Support regulatory and commercial decision-making
  • Work with water companies, investors and government

You'll get hands‐on with:

  • Financial and economic analysis
  • Excel‐based modelling
  • Reports and recommendations used at board and government level

What you'll gain

You'll join a structured Professional Placement Programme with formal finance and regulatory training, monthly development sessions, coaching, mentoring and a dedicated buddy, exposure to senior leaders and infrastructure projects, site visits and industry insight. This gives you experience that leads directly into careers in infrastructure finance, investment and project finance, economic regulation, government and consultancy.

Skills & mindset

  • Strong interest in infrastructure, finance or investment
  • Confident using numbers, spreadsheets and Excel
  • Able to communicate clearly in writing and conversation
  • Curious, commercially aware and detail-driven
  • Interested in how major projects get funded and delivered

Birmingham (B5) or London (E14), 12‐month paid industrial placement, salary in line with Ofwat professional placements, excellent pension, leave and public‐sector benefits.
