You will support organisations in managing defined benefit pension schemes and long-term financial risks, combining analytical skills with commercial awareness across a changing regulatory landscape.
There are various office locations for your Actuarial Consulting Industrial Placement:
Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Epsom and St Albans.
Key Criteria
Essential:
- On track for a 2:1 degree (or higher) in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or a highly numerical discipline
- A grade in A-level Maths (or equivalent e.g. Scottish Higher or international equivalent)
- Strong analytical and numerical problem-solving ability
- Confident communicator able to explain complex information clearly
- Right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme
- Willing to work predominantly on-site during the initial months for training and development
Desirable:
- Experience or interest in Python, SQL, VBA or cloud analytical tools
- Demonstrated initiative, teamwork and organisational skills
- Understanding of pensions, finance, insurance or risk desirable but not essential
What You Will Be Doing
You will work as part of client teams supporting actuarial advisers. Tasks may include:
- Assessing the financial position and funding levels of pension schemes
- Calculating risk and liabilities relating to member benefits
- Supporting company financial reporting for pension obligations
- Identifying and modelling risks such as inflation, investment and longevity
- Preparing data and reports for clients, trustees and regulators
- Attending meetings and developing client relationships
